All products made by Wholebake are
carefully handmade using only the finest natural ingredients carefully blended
and baked by traditional methods.
Based on the goodness of oats our slices
are deliciously moist with a distinctive homemade taste. All ingredients are
carefully selected for quality of taste, nutrition and purity.
Produced in a modern purpose built
vegetarian factory in line with the policy of the founders of the Company all
products are suitable for vegetarians and contain no Genetically Modified
ingredients or Hydrogenated Fats. No artificial additives or preservatives are
used making our products suitable for the most health conscious, nearly all of
the products are suitable for vegans.
Where we started ......
Wholebake was founded in 1984 by Stephen
Jones and Jennifer Gibson who, after many years in both the retail and
wholesale Wholefood Trade, found that was nearly impossible to buy good
quality, healthy ready-to-eat food anywhere. Seeing the potential of this
market, they started to produce such food in the kitchen of their farmhouse and
sold it locally through Health Food Shops and local supermarkets.
Initially this consisted of frozen Ready
Meals. Encouraged by the response, a range of Wholefood pies and pasties were
soon added to the range. A barn adjoining the house was soon converted to
provide the extra capacity needed to cope with the demand.
By 1987 they had again run out of
capacity and purchased premises in Corwen. With the extra facilities at the new
premises, a new product was born - the Apricot & Apple Slice. With a shelf
life of three weeks these slices were
distributed far more widely and proved to be so popular that soon other
flavours were added.
Growth through Investment
....
Sales continued to grow rapidly and some
potential new customers had to be turned away, whilst existing customers were
being rationed. In order to cope with the demand a new factory was purchased
and fitted out to the highest standards. Additional land adjacent to the
factory was also purchased at the same time to allow for further future
expansion.
Continuing investment has seen continuous
improvements in quality control, staff training and production efficiency.
In 2002 the factory was doubled in size
with the addition of a new 4,500 sq ft production area and an additional 1,000
sq ft of warehousing. A continuous production line was installed in the new
production area consisting of a 20 metre Baker Perkins travelling oven with bar
forming, slitting and cutting equipment along with a high speed flow wrap
machine. This new line is capable of producing around 200 bars per minute.

Wholebake is still family owned and run
and prides itself on offering a first class personal service to all of it's
customers. They now also offer facilities for own label products which can be
formulated to your own requirements if required.
